What this test is
This test measures the amount of estrone, a form of estrogen, in the blood. Estrone is produced by the ovaries, adrenal glands, and fat tissue, and it is the primary estrogen after menopause. The test helps assess estrogen status in both women and men.
What it measures
- Estrone — reflects the level of this estrogen in the blood
What the test involves
The test requires a standard blood draw from a vein in your arm. The sample is then sent to a laboratory for analysis.
Why it is often ordered
A clinician may order an estrone test to investigate symptoms of hormone imbalance, such as irregular periods or menopausal symptoms. It can also be used to monitor certain hormone-related conditions or treatments.
