What this test is

This test measures specific IgE antibodies in your blood that react to goldenrod pollen. It helps identify whether your immune system has been sensitized to this weed pollen.

What it measures

  • Specific IgE to Goldenrod Pollen — Reflects the level of allergic antibodies your immune system produces against goldenrod pollen.

What the test involves

A healthcare professional collects a small blood sample from a vein in your arm using a standard blood draw. The sample is then sent to a laboratory for analysis.

Why it is often ordered

A clinician may order this test if you have allergy symptoms during goldenrod season and they want to confirm or rule out goldenrod as a trigger. It is often part of a broader allergy evaluation when multiple weed pollens are suspected.

Preparation

No special preparation is usually required, but follow the collection lab's instructions. They will tell you if any medications or timing considerations apply.

How results are reported

Results are reported as a numeric value or class indicating the level of specific IgE antibodies, along with the laboratory's reference range. Reference ranges vary by laboratory, so your result should be interpreted in the context of the lab's own ranges and your symptoms.

Before you go

  • Whether any medications should be stopped before the blood draw
  • The lab's expected turnaround time for results
  • How results will be shared with you and your clinician
