What this test is

This test measures specific IgE antibodies that your immune system may produce in response to nutmeg proteins. It is used to help evaluate whether nutmeg could be triggering allergic symptoms.

What it measures

  • Nutmeg-specific IgE — Reflects the amount of allergic antibody directed against nutmeg proteins.

What the test involves

A healthcare professional collects a small blood sample, usually from a vein in your arm. The sample is then sent to a laboratory for analysis.

Why it is often ordered

A clinician may order this test if you have had allergic symptoms after eating foods containing nutmeg or after exposure to nutmeg powder. It is typically used along with your medical history and other evaluations.

How results are reported

Results are reported as a numeric value that indicates the level of nutmeg-specific IgE in your blood. Reference ranges and interpretation can vary by laboratory, so your clinician will explain what your result means.
