What this test is

This test measures specific IgE antibodies that your immune system may produce in response to celery proteins. It is used to support the diagnosis of a celery allergy when symptoms suggest a reaction.

What it measures

  • Celery-specific IgE — Reflects the amount of IgE antibody directed against celery proteins in the blood.

What the test involves

A healthcare professional collects a small blood sample, usually from a vein in your arm. The sample is then sent to a laboratory for analysis.

Why it is often ordered

A clinician may order this test if you have had allergic symptoms after eating or handling celery, such as hives, swelling, or digestive upset. It can also be part of a broader allergy evaluation.

Preparation

No special preparation is typically required, but follow the instructions provided by the collection laboratory. They will tell you if any medications or foods need to be avoided before the draw.

How results are reported

Results are reported as a numerical value that indicates the level of celery-specific IgE in your blood. Reference ranges vary by laboratory, so your results should be interpreted in the context of the lab's own ranges and your symptoms.
