What the test involves
Depending on the lab and your situation, the sample may be collected as a urine sample or as a swab of the vagina, urethra, or other genital area. A standard blood draw is not used for this test.
Why it is often ordered
A clinician may order this test when someone has symptoms such as unusual discharge, burning with urination, or genital irritation, or when a sexual partner has been diagnosed with trichomoniasis. It may also be included in routine screening for people at higher risk.
